Happy Trails Brewing Company

Trails & Tap finds an inspired taproom at Happy Trails Brewing

One day during our hiking and camping trip at Rock Island State Park, we had rainy weather. So of course, we wanted to visit a brewery! 18 miles away in Sparta, Tennessee, is Happy Trails Brewing Company. With a name like that we absolutely had to go!

This brewery is hiking themed. There is a large bar counter, diverse indoor seating, and a large outdoor patio. There is also a restaurant called Trailhead Grub, where you can order burgers, wings, nachos, and other yummy dishes. Happy Trails is also woman owned, and she went to Auburn University for her masters in brewing science (War Eagle!).

Happy Trails had around 100 beers, ciders, seltzers, and non-alcoholic beers available when we visited. Their taproom sells drinks from other local and national breweries. Their February home brews on tap included an IPA, two brown ales, a sour, a red ale, a stout, and a pale ale.

I tried the POG Sour, the I Think I Pecan American Brown Ale, and the Montgomery Belgian Pale Ale. These three beers were all from Happy Trails. The POG Sour was tart and citrussy and was one of the best sours I’ve ever had! But the I Think I Pecan was so, so good. It was smooth and had a great vanilla and nutty flavor. Those two beers were limited release ones. We stayed at Happy Trails for about three hours (it’s not fun to sit at a rainy campsite!) so I ordered another beer – the Wild Sour Series: Cherry Pie Sour from DESTIHL. I love a cherry sour, especially when it is a cherry pie sour. This was just a great beer!

Jesse had the I Think I Pecan, Bella Caffe Coffee Stout, and the Ranger Brown Ale. These three were from Happy Trails. His favorite was the Bella Caffe. Jesse also had the Garage Beer Lager from Garage Beer and the Blackbeary Hug Sour from WanderLinger. He preferred the Blackbeary Hug out of the two.

If you are in Sparta, make your way to Happy Trails. It is family friendly, there is a drink for everyone, and the staff is very friendly. It is also great to support a woman-owned business! We were obsessed with the outdoorsy atmosphere. We can’t wait to visit again!

Tips for your trip:
