Florence Marina State Park

Take a Relaxing Getaway to Florence Marina State Park

Located just 15 minutes away from Providence Canyon is Florence Marina State Park. Florence Marina State Park is located on the northern end of Lake Walter F. George (also called Lake Eufaula), which is a large lake fed by the Chattahoochee River. This park is not a big hiking park (although it does have a 1 mile nature trail) so it is not normally a park we would visit. However, it is still a gem! Spanning 173 acres, the park blends rich history, abundant wildlife, and exciting water activities, making it an ideal destination for a weekend getaway or a longer vacation.

Lake Walter F. George is located in Georgia’s Coastal Plain. That means that you can spot wading birds, Spanish moss, and possibly even an alligator if you are lucky. I love our state’s southern wildlife, and any time I have even the possibility of spotting some, I have to go! Florence Marina has a large campground and a marina. If you love to fish and camp, this is a great park for you! I think an awesome weekend trip would be to go camping at Florence Marina, hike at Providence Canyon, and go grab some beers at Omaha Brewing Company. Even if you aren’t staying overnight, this is a great park to have a lakeside picnic pre or post canyon hike.
